Emma Adams
Birth & Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, and Lactation Specialist
I am a wife, mother, and birthworker/educator based in Syracuse, NY. I started my education as a birth doula in 2016. After having my own babies, my passion for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care really grew. Since then I have furthered my education to offer postpartum care and lactation support.
In 2016 my husband and I welcomed our first baby into the world. I was so excited about motherhood, while also completely oblivious to the challenges that came along with it. Not long after the birth of our daughter, I found myself struggling with milk supply, breastfeeding, and mental health. All of these are challenges I hadn’t prepared myself for but are so incredibly common in our society today.
Motherhood craves care and community. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for the friends and family members who prepared us meals, offered help, and shared welcomed guidance as we leaned into our new lives as parents. I knew then and there only months out from birthing our daughter that supporting and caring for new and seasoned mothers was what I needed to be doing. Our system can do so much better for our mamas and babies.
When I’m not working as a doula you can find me in my kitchen cooking nourishing meals for my family, baking sourdough bread, mothering my three children, and tending to our very spoiled flock of chickens. I also enjoy meandering around the local thrift and antique shops with a cup of coffee in hand looking for treasures to fill our 100+ year old home. Deeply thankful for the beauty we get to enjoy in each day.
The need for support, empowerment, care, and comfort is so prominant in motherhood. The privilege of being able to walk alongside mothers as they instinctually bring their babies to earth and navigate the weeks that follow is something I will never take for granted. Thankful each and every day for the opportunity to do this work.
